Avery Sunshine
Avery Sunshine is a mercurial musician and singer who blends the soul of gospel and jazz with R&B to create a unique mix. Sunshine has performed everywhere from Broadway to The Democratic National Convention to the European club and festival scenes. Her real name is Denise White. While she is a resident of Atlanta, she originates from Chester Pennsylvania where she began music by performing and playing the piano in churches. In Atlanta she was a student at Spellman College where her musical instruction began with Atlanta's R&B Scene. It was remixed and has become a part of her repertoire. She also lent her voice to the soundtrack of The Fighting Temptations. In 2005, Tyler Perry hired her as the primary keyboardist in his stage show Meet the Browns. Jennifer Holliday, a Grammy- as well as Tony Award winning vocalist who was part of the stage production Dreamgirls during the National Black Arts Festival of Atlanta in 2007, contacted her about being the director of the choral group for this theatrical production. Sunshine rose to prominence throughout the four performances during the The 2008 Democratic National Convention. Sunshine went on to sing at Barack Obama's 2009 Inauguration.
